Choosing a club basketball team in the East Valley means choosing more than a uniform. You are choosing a coach, a practice environment and a commitment that will shape your athlete’s week. For families in Tempe, Chandler and Ahwatukee, the right fit starts with clear answers about development, scheduling and cost.
Before joining a team, use these questions to compare programs and decide whether the experience fits your child’s goals.

What happens at a typical practice?
Ask how the coach balances individual skills, team concepts and live play. What feedback will your athlete receive? How does the coach respond to mistakes? A younger player learning spacing may need different instruction from an experienced player preparing for a more competitive schedule.
Look for explanations your child understands. Ask how the coach communicates progress and what athletes can work on between practices.
Where will the team practice, and how often?
A convenient practice location matters when you are balancing school, homework and family schedules. Confirm the actual gym, practice frequency and expected game commitments before enrolling. Ask whether locations change and how much notice families receive.
Ballin Elite Club teams practice twice a week and play weekend games. Our teams train in our own gym in Tempe, with a full-size half court and eight Dr. Dish shooting bays. Contact us for the current team-specific practice days and game calendar.
What is included in the monthly fee?
Request the complete cost, not just the advertised monthly payment. Ask about uniforms, tournament or league fees, travel, commitment length and cancellation terms. Get any additional charges confirmed before committing.
Ballin Elite Club is $250 per month for players who make a team, with a Shooting 30 membership included. That gives club players an opportunity to keep working on their shooting outside team practice. Contact us to confirm current booking rules and any additional team expenses.
How is playing time decided?
Ask about the coach’s approach to rotations, attendance, effort and player development. An honest explanation helps families understand expectations. Avoid assuming that making a roster guarantees a particular number of minutes.
Include your athlete in this conversation. They should understand what the coach expects and feel comfortable asking for feedback.
How should an athlete prepare for club basketball tryouts?
Read the registration details and choose the correct grade session. Arrive early enough to check in, wear basketball shoes and athletic clothes, and bring water. During the session, listen to instructions, communicate with teammates and keep working after mistakes.

What if my athlete needs training before joining a team?
A team is one way to develop. Coached skill work and focused shooting practice can also give an athlete time to work on specific parts of their game. Ask which option suits their experience and interests instead of rushing into a commitment.
